Magazine love

by Melissa   Feb 11, 2006

Charlize Theron graces the cover
of this month's Marie Claire magazine;
and I feel a little ugly
as I watch my dirty hands
eagerly flip through the pages,
like a child searching for lost innocence.

The splurges and steals of fashion
only prove how vain we've really become,
and the intoxicating aroma of ecstasy
overwhelm my thoughts with negativity.
Adventurous lines of sexual desire
tell us fantasies can become reality,
but is it really only a lure of evil satisfaction
disguised as sensual love?

Pretty models photographed to perfection
stare at me from the pages of colorful beauty;
with a hint of an egotistical grin
and a voice that screams "I'm a goddess",
one whispers to me, "I'm in a magazine
and that makes me perfect,
how perfect are you"?

    Now this is what the media should publicize. Wonderfully done. 5/5

    Great message! True beauty comes from within. Magazines portray a lie so well that it fascinates me. Everyone's beautiful. Brilliantly written!

    Beautifully written! A nice reminder that beauty is as beauty does....looks have nothing to do with it. Sad to say, society has painted a different picture and it sometimes cuts like a knife.

    I don't read magazines very much, but I know what your talking about. You look at the images of people who seem to have mastered perfection in every way but in reality they're probably looking at you the same way. Nobody is perfect...we all have our flaws. The way I see, there's only one way possible to master perfection and that's honestly loving yourself for who you are. Nowadays, not many people can do that.

    awesome write! keep up the good work
