I Never Knew

by Kenshin   Apr 13, 2006

Reflecting back on the past,
Looking at your life for a change,
Wondering where the tides cast us,
And how much love I must've felt toward you.

I remember the old days,
You sitting down with the encyclopedia,
Parents outside,
No one to play with or talk to.

You always said you were alright,
That it never bothered you not to have them there,
Playing their games and going about life,
You believed they will never be there for you.

Knowledge became your power,
Hunger to understand their feelings,
Thinking they must've hate you,
Who’d love a person life you, you always told me.

Days go by, and time flies away,
Tragedy hits and you were the strongest of us all,
You knew the reason behind your existence,
A love to hold us together as grandfather did.

Yet the tides of life came crashing in,
Shock after another, mine being the greatest,
You thought I was always alright,
But truth be told, you never left my sight.

To me, I took you as a toy,
Toying with your emotions, wanting you to leave,
But you never left,
Making sure I'll get by one step at a time.

I see you now and I wonder why,
Why would an angel carry of much weight?
I never knew how hard life was on you,
Your smile concealed the hidden tears of your very soul.

An only child,
A lonely friend,
The protector of other,
I wonder when did you stop caring for yourself.

Taking in the pain of others,
Allowing yourself to experience more hardship,
Pushing yourself to the edge,
Yet, you always survived.

I never knew,
Never realized,
How truly grateful I am,
That I am with you.

So, little fallen angel right there,
Make me repay but a small debt,
Allow me to be your wings,
And take you away from this world of harm.
