City Of a Thousand Crimson Lights **Part 3**

A nurse came to his side
"She's awake" and she left him there
He went to the room
slowly opened the door and saw her laying there
eyes filled with blood, puss, and tears.
Crusted half shut
lips bloody and chapped
face burned and body motionless
he took a deep breath and went in to see her
she looked up at him as he looked down at her
he pulled up a chair and sat down beside her
took her hand in his, and kissed it
"I know this may seem crazy" he started.
"But when i saw you the other night i felt something,
something in the heart
something in the soul
something that only one answer can cure
and i know i may seem deranged, but please,
just give me a chance."
He got down on one knee, looked her in her eyes
took a deep breath
"Will you marry me??" he asked
she layed there
not a movement or a sound had been done
but she had a slight smile appear on her face
as she started to cry, still not saying anything
he took his graduation ring off of his hand
gave it to her
looked at her with tears embroidering his deep brown eyes
and said
"Now i know it's not much, but it's all i can afford right now.
If you will give me a chance i can get a better one"
She still had not spoken
so he got up and left her there
started towards the door as he heard a grasping voice sound out
"Wait...." was all that she said
he turned to look at her as she continued
"I do not know you very well or anything,
but if you are willing to give me a chance, then i am willing to do the same for you
My answer is yes."
He walked over to her and hugged her ever so slightly
as the nurse came in with the test results
she told the boy he could stay or he could go
but the girl asked him to stay
"You had a blood alcohol level of 4 in you,
yes you were drinking, but no you will not have any consequences
set by the state that is...you are however, paralysed from the neck down
you have no feeling in your legs or arms am i correct??"
"I, I'm not too sure" she staggered to say.
the nurse walked over lifted her legs for her
not a glimpse of pain was seen in her porcelain face
she walked over to her arms, lifted them for her
and once again, not a sight of pain was seen in the girl
she started to cry
the nurse had been right
the boy took her hand in his
and as a tear fell from his heart to hers
he said to her "It will all be okay, i will stick with you
you have my promise, and all of my promises i keep."
And sure enough, seventy years later he still sits here
just pondering about when she will awake
the true love of his life was in a wheel chair, their whole life through
but he had the courage to stick with her
and she had the courage to live
