I'm fine...or at least that's what I say

by Megan   Jul 24, 2006

You look at me with those big
Beautiful green worried eyes
Wondering what is wrong...
And I tell you I'm fine...

When I get home I scream out
Your name as they add to
The mix of colors they already
Did to my fragile body...

When you call to find out
If I'm doing fine
You hear the hurt in my
Shaking voice as I try
And tell you that I'm fine...

You ask if you can see me
Sometime tonight before
The sun goes down
And I tell you I have
Home work to do...

The next day in school
You come up to give
Me a hug and I flinch
As you touch my skin...

You demand to see
The skin that I've
Covered by my clothing
And I refuse to show you...

You push me up against
The wall and beg me
To show you what they
Did to me and I begin
To cry in your arms...

When you see the damage
That they had done
You declare that your
Going to kill them...

I beg you to forget it
I've been through it
For 16 years...
I can handle 2 more...

You look down at me
And say you wont let
Them touch me again,
That you will protect me...

As I stare back at you
You take your hand up
To my face and wipe
Away my tears then
You pull me close...

Later that day when
It was time to go home
You declared that I was
To go with you so I'd
Be safe through the night...

And when they showed
Up at your front door
You fought for me all
The way to your death...

As you fell to the ground
I began to scream and
They turned on me
Just as 2 shots rang out...
And they fell beside you...

Leaving me standing there
Right above you...crying...
I bend down beside you
And stroke your face...

Then I reach out and
Take you in my arms
And thank you...you
Protected me till your
Very last breath...
