Is this what it takes?

by Krissey   Aug 2, 2006

People take the little things for granted
That's just how our minds are arranged
But after that fateful day, August 29th
The appreciation level changed

Hurricane Katrina came barreling in
No one realized that the levees became weak
They were knocked over by 25 ft. waves
These houses had way more then just a leak

Houses became swimming pools
Streets now looked like rivers
I can't imagine what people thought
I can't imagine how they shivered

Porches leading to no houses
Tiles still connected to the ground
The neighborhood was completely gone
There was not a human being around

FEMA was doing nothing to help
So other people decided to try
The residents were so appreciative
It made many of them cry

The church was the first running over
Speaking to people about faith in the Lord
Telling them to spread their wings
With faith in God, like an eagle they shall sore

People started noticing
Wondering if this was true
Could there really be a God out there
Who would help them make it through?

Stop complaining about everything possible
It shouldn’t take a tragedy to make you smile
You should be appreciative of everything right now
And still believe in God all the while

People of the world listen here
I want you to listen very clear
Time to stop questioning if there’s a God
But for once just believe he is here

*is this what it takes to get people to be nice and appreciative..do we have to lose everything to appreciative of other kindness...whats going on anymore?*

Very good poem, It is sad to think we have to experience a tragedy to appreciate God, and each other. We should only have to see an ocean,a sunset,a mountain or a baby to know how much he has given us. Thank you for reading my poems and commenting
I will always do the same.

Very interesting topic for a poem, and it'll be nice in years to come to have your historical and emotional response to this tragedy. Great job.
