Prefabricated Beauty

Beauty
is a hard standard to reach
she tries and tries to get it
but its just too hard to meet
she sets herself up for failure
by making it one of her goals
what she didnt realize soon enough
could easily kill her soul

As the satisfaction she never felt
slowly takes over
she loses herself & her self-control
her mirror does the job
of tearing her image apart
with its sharp claws
& she finishes it
by picking away at the flaws

Eventually she begins to even fool herself
By saying:
"just a little more make-up"
"just lose one more pound"
"if I just tell myself to keep moving"
"it will all be worth heaving on the ground"

What was once such a beautiful thing
has become a complete lie
her mind is tired of this sick game
but its too late, its already taken over her life
even though she'd rather just die
& shell never be quite the same
she sold her soul for what she thought was beautiful
but could only be described as an ugly lie
she turned her life upside down
she can barely recognize herself with her own eyes!

But now she can finally see
the vicious cycle she was thrown into
the one we call beauty
& although to you it may not be worth it
she still wishes she was picture perfect..
