Insomnia

by Gem   Nov 7, 2006

Every night it is the same
As he waits for sleep to come
To release him from the living hell
That's making his senses numb

He's tried everything to feel
The sweet release of sleep
Reading, baths, hot drinks of milk
He's even tried counting sheep

But nothing ever seems to work
He's stuck in this quiet world
Where everyone around is still
And in slumber silently curled

He's lucky if he gets an hour
Or two of forty winks
Why can't he be like everyone else?
It's like some curse or jinx

He can get reduced to tears
As he sits up through the night
His mind and body unable to rest
Due to his wretched plight

He lies on his bed and shuts his eyes
As he awaits the morning sun
Once again, a night of hell
Again insomnia has won ©

(Not having insomnia myself, i don't know if i did it justice but my fiance has been a victim of this and after staying at his and seeing for myself what it's like, i tried to write about it. Not to sure though x)

I suffer from insomnia, and that's a bummer. you did do it justice, i thought the rhyming was right on, not forced at all. imagery was very vivid as well. 5/5

Wow i just assumed that you had insomia while i was reading this. I dont personally dont have insomnia (love sleep too much lol) so i can only imagine the sheer hell that it must be. You describe the kinda frustration that i would think would be associated with insomnia. Another great piece.

You pretty well hit the nail on the head. As a sufferer of insomnia, myself, this is accurate.

    Sleepless nights, tossing and turning.

The flow was good. And I liked the topic.

    Keep it up.
