From a Cutters Point of View

From a Cutters Point of View

Do you wish your scars gone?
My therapist asked me one day.
No. I reply. Of course not,
each of them I wish to stay.

All of them tell a story, I explain.
of a memory that will always be true.
You have to hold on to that,
Or else you would never be you.

Like the time when my mom
Told me I was weak
All I could think of doing
Was letting my blood slowly leak.

Or that day that my father
Pushed me across the room
The only thing that brought me to peace
Was facing my own doom.

The woman seemed confused
As I tried to tell it my best
Never had I been this close to letting everything slip
No one- even my best friend knows the rest.

I cautiously lifted up my sleeve
To only show what was real.
So long I have been keeping it away
And kept my lips tightly sealed.

The stranger sees the word written,
LOVE neatly scraped into my arm.
I used a razor. I told her.
She seemed to be alarmed.

The L means LAUGHTER.
I would really like that back.
I want to be happy again,
A smile I wish no longer to lack.

And the O stands for OPTIMISTIC.
Always looking to the good.
The glass is half full instead of empty,
But, right now I don't think I ever could.

V is for VICTORY.
I want to overcome my dreams.
Not let my emotions get in the way
Or my minds terrible screams.

And the last letter, E is for ENERGY.
Or knowing I'll be fine.
I want to finally be excited; not lazy,
And know when to draw the line.

LOVE. I whisper.
LOVE is all I need.
Do you think you will be able to help me?
I great life I wish to lead.

And with a smile on her face,
She nods her head up and down,
It was good to know that soon
I wouldn't see this frown.
