At the Mall

by Poetically Speaking   Dec 17, 2006

(I'm deploying to Iraq this year)

It seemed like just yesterday I was with you,
laughing at the kids in the mall.
We were so in love.
We were always so sure it was true,
I was laughing with you.
You knew I'd never have left though,
if I didn't have some place on the other side,
but they need me to go.

Will the world wait for me?
I hope they do.
Cause I'll be on the other side,
thinking of you.

I left before I had a chance to show my hand,
but that's how it sometime goes.
We don't get the chance to cry,
but you can't undo choices or the people you've met.
So I'll just write to you when I can,
and hope you read them at night.

Will the world wait for me?
I hope they do.
Cause I'll be on the other side,
thinking of you.
If you aren't thinking of me,
then here's what I'll say when I write,
"I'm over here alone, only thinking of you on this night."

Can you hold on to them forever?
If I don't return, you'll have them to treasure.
I can tell you what it's like on the other side.
If I don't return,
I'll remember when we laughed and cried.

Will the world wait for me?
I hope they do.
Cause I'll be on the other side,
thinking of you.
If you aren't thinking of me,
when I'm thinking of you, then I won't cry.
I'll remember when we shared those days.
At the mall laughing at the kids passing by...
