My Patchwork Heart

My Patchwork Heart

I'll sew it back together again,
My patchwork heart,
Not quite sure if I'll save it,
Don't know if it'll work.

And every time it gets broken
I'll begin on repairs,
But it's become quite battered
From the scars and the tears.

It's nothing new,
Just a rip at the seam
Sew it back together
Though it will no longer gleam.

I wouldn't recognise
My very own heart
All the reparation
Has torn it apart.

It's a mismatched arrangement
Of any old stuff,
Quickly made do,
And I hope it's enough.

The patterns don't match,
But I didn't have time,
To be picky about this
Make do heart of mine.

You'd think I'd be used
To all this sewing by now,
But despite all the practice
I still don't seem to know how.

Just fix it together,
With needle and thread
But not too well,
Because they'll be more work ahead.

As the stitches grow weaker,
I can't take much more of it,
I don't know how many more times,
I can turn to my sewing kit.

Every time it gets worse
And my chances get slimmer
And my poor patchwork heart
Will no longer glimmer.
