Destination: Passenger's Seat

by The Queen of Spades   Feb 6, 2007

It's like driving down the dark and winding road
Far past your bedtime
The wind in your hair
The smell of life entering your nose
Your car hums along gently
Adding to the ambiance, not subtracting from the scene
It's cool, but perfect
Everything's perfect
The soft music wafting out of the speakers
Making gentle love to your ears
Enticing you to turn it up
But knowing that it's intriguing where it is
Your headlights are the only light on the road
Who cares where you're going
Or where you came from
All that matters is who's sitting next to you
Passenger's seat
Holding your hand
Holding the clutch
The gentle warmth of skin on skin making the hairs on the back of your neck
Stand on end.
It's a warm summer day, in the middle of winter
Like it was meant to be
Because it is.
Your car hugs the curves
Gently moving as one
Like you two should be
Nature seducing what we were meant to do
Heightening your awareness of everything
Engaging your senses
Making you ask for more
Will the ride end soon
Or continue until the break of morning?
Daring the perfection to continue for one more day
So lovers like you and I can reach our destination.

Very well written, the flow was good, however I felt the structure needs work, perhaps breaking it into stanzas would help. Other than that wonderful poem.

    Peace, Joe

Wow. You most definitely have a way with words. I felt as if I was right there in the car. The imagery it created and that I saw in my mind was beautiful. I really like this poem of yours. Wonderfully done.
