Please Remember Me

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Apr 26, 2007

Behind an old garbage bin, he sorrowfully cries,
Down on his knees, paying for all his pathetic lies,
And he etches out the words on his wedding band:
"This life is ours to share; forever - hand in hand."

His breath laced with cigarettes and whiskey,
He litters his memories on the old city streets,
And as he walks along the busy interstate,
Headlights shining, horns blaring - he looks straight.

For in his mind, and above his heart; he sees her face,
Holding onto her tattered picture - a beautiful disgrace,
But standing outside of her house, he sees her smile,
As he places down his letter - mumbling of her beguile.

Sitting alone under the broken stars - he sighs:
"When you think of that old car, and those leather seats,
And when you see that old wedding picture of you and me,
I hope you think of me. When you see those baby shoes,
And that string of pearls I bought when you told me the news,
Or that old stroller folded up inside our first baby crib of blue,
I hope you think of me and the way I sat there holding you -
In that hospital room, with tears in your eyes, when you said;
It'd be me and you forever, and I kissed your sweet lips of red.
But baby, when you think of that day - the county fair in town,
My eyes on you as you laughed with your friends, dancing around,
And I remember thinking - how could someone could be so pretty;
But you took my hand that night when I asked you to remember me."

And as he laid there that night, wallowing in his despair,
She stood in her front lawn, reading the letter he left there,
And with a tear in her eye, she falls down onto her knees:
"Baby, I remember you, but please - don't remember me."
