The She Wolf

by Gem   May 2, 2007

Moving stealthily through the night
The bark isn't as bad as the bite
Creeping softly, not making a sound
Paws padding in the snow covered ground

She points her nose up at the moon
Mournfully howls, a howl of doom
Stirring forward through the trees
Bringing nature to her knees

The moon is full, it's brightly glowing
The wind picks up, it keeps on snowing
She's running now, she needs to go
Too much time has passed she knows

The wind is rivaling her speed
Both battling to take the lead
She's closing in upon her prey
Hoping they haven't gone astray

She stops outside a snowy den
Hidden inside a peaceful glen
Listening for the sounds of snores
Her little cubs, she so adores

Just before the new dawn breaks
She stretches out and gives a shake
Curling up with her cubs so small
The she wolf listens for the daytime call

Such a dark poem. The imagery is wonderful, a sense of urgency and danger. Amazing, I have missed reading your poems - not had a chance to be on here as much. Glad to see you havent lost your touch lol. Excellent poem.
