Ain't Too Proud To Beg [Lyrics]

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Jun 6, 2007

[VERSE 1]

There's a man down in the street,
Begging for a simple bite to eat,
Got nothing left but a simple photo,
And the blurred city faces come and go.
Tears cloud his eyes of bright sky blue,
Hiding the stories he remembers to be true,
And not one person has stopped today,
They all turn their heads, got nothing to say,
But with his hands clasped together, he cries,
Knowing people see through his disguise,
And...

[CHORUS]

He ain't too proud to beg no more,
His hunger he just can't ignore,
And with a sign in his hands that reads:
"Will work 'till my hands bleed,
All I want is some food to eat;"
His eyes are filled with defeat,
When people walk right on by,
But you can see the pain in his eyes,
Knowing - he ain't too proud to beg.

[VERSE 2]

His mama left him when he was a baby,
Dad was never sober enough to see -
There was an honest man right there,
Working for every breath of air.
Not an ounce of luck has even come his way,
But every night he hits his knees to pray,
He says: "Now Lord, I don't ask for much,
But for once I'd just like my lips to touch,
A drop of water and a bite of food,
To change my opinions on those who are rude."
And..

[CHORUS]

He ain't too proud to beg no more,
His hunger he just can't ignore,
And with a sign in his hands that reads:
"Will work 'till my hands bleed,
All I want is some food to eat;"
His eyes are filled with defeat,
When people walk right on by,
But you can see the pain in his eyes,
Knowing - he ain't too proud to beg.

[VERSE 3]

He believes in karma and he believes in fate,
It's been a few long weeks since he ate,
And he knows that he's done some things,
But even the sinners sometimes got wings.
And on his knees in the darkened street,
He wishes once more for something to eat,
His pale hands are shaking and cold,
And his heart is plated in pure shimmering gold.
But...

[CHORUS]

He ain't too proud to beg no more,
His hunger he just can't ignore,
And with a sign in his hands that reads:
"Will work 'till my hands bleed,
All I want is some food to eat;"
His eyes are filled with defeat,
When people walk right on by,
But you can see the pain in his eyes,
Knowing - he ain't too proud to beg.

...He's got nothing left but a simple photo
Of his wife and kids from seven years ago,
In front of their house white and blue,
And a note on the back that says "I love you."
