Orange County Girl [Glosa Verse]

Lines taken from Hotel California, by The Eagles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
'Relax' said the night man, 'We are programed to receive'
'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave'

There`s embers of her past left out to rot,
In the smokey alleyway where she lost herself,
The drugs and the alcohol and the sweet serenades --
All called out to her, begged her not to leave.
Her mind is twisted, lost in a dark movie scene,
She`s naked and crying, crawling on the bedroom floor,
He got his way with her, left her there to die,
Locked down the prison bars, as he called to her:
"You`ve won the battle, but you`ll lose the war!"
'Last thing I rememember, I was running for the door.'

Some speak of lonely and forgotten heart breaks,
Wishing in the back of their minds to forget,
But some yell about the forgiveness they gave,
When it was easier to just move on, to not regret.
She`s been seen before, down in Orange County,
Never asking for much, but always begging for more.
The sky`s closing in, time is running, it`s running out,
And she`s trapped in the grasp of her demons,
As they feed on her wretched soul, gnawing at her core;
'I had to find the passage back to the place I was before.'

The ground was getting softer by the days passing,
And her grave was starting to look better and better,
Broken and bloody, she was tearing apart at the seams,
Running from something that was never meant to be.
Down on the ground, he kicked dirt into her face,
As she fed off of the lies he made her believe.
She had no control on her life, he was taking over,
And there was nothing else left for her to lose.
Trembling and crying, she wept late in the eve;
'Relax' said the night man, 'We are programed to receive.'

She never walked on water, but Hell was different,
The coals were burning and she was exhausted,
Deprived of her essentials, she called out for help,
But nobody heard her, nobody reached for her.
Suffocating her broken heart with whiskey tears,
A blinding light shone down, its purpose was to deceive,
And in her darkest midnight hour, it burnt out.
Clothes ripped and tattered, she searched for life,
But not even she could change the life she started to weave;
'You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.'

Glosa-Verse: A Spanish form invented by court poets in the 14th and 15th centuries. An opening quatrain, called a 'cabeza' is chosen from another poet, or song. The glosa elaborates or 'glosses' on the quatrain with four ten line stanzas, their concluding lines taken consecutively from the quatrain and their sixth and ninth lines rhyming with the borrowed tenth.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If this is confusing at all, it is about drugs..and the toll they had taken on her life. The 'man' who is kicking her down and screaming at her is the demon she fights as she tries to get off of the drugs, but, they always call her back..The quotes at the endings of the lines are her telling her story.

    Wow. I always love reading your work. But this peice was AMAZING! The descriptions, the word chioce, the comparisons. Everything was just wow. I loved the picture you painted in my mind. You grabbed my attention with the first stanza and I could not stop reading. Also, it was not confusing at all. I loved it. Great job!
