I`m Good to Go but I`m Going Nowhere Fast [LIcentia Rhyme]

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Nov 27, 2007

I`m good to go but I`m going nowhere fast,
Running at the sight of my pathetic past,
And these lonesome country lullabies sound,
From the fabricated speakers all around.
I`m chasing down stop signs in the countryside,
Running down a path that refuses to hide,
And the dirt roads fall behind under my wheels,
As the dust in my tracks blatantly conceals --
The promises I muttered to my shadow:
"I won`t go back to the life I used to know."
I`m good to go but I`m going nowhere fast,
Running at the sight of my pathetic past.

And these lonesome country lullabies sound,
From the fabricated speakers all around,
Singing old songs of bittersweet love affairs,
And broken hearts that are beyond any repairs.
I find the resemblance a little funny,
How each song speaks of a person just like me;
I`ve got a bag of my clothes in the backseat,
And a song that reminds me of him on repeat.
I`m down to my last cigarette and I know,
At a dead end like this, there`s nowhere to go;
I`m good to go but I`m going nowhere fast,
Running at the sight of my pathetic past.

I`m chasing down stop signs in the countryside,
Running down a path that refuses to hide,
And a voice mail rings in the back of my mind,
`Cuz I left him one of the loneliest kind.
And maybe I let go of the only one,
Because of all the misery that I spun,
But I press the gas down to the shaking floor,
`Cuz I can`t go back to where I was before;
It would be like throwing dust into the wind,
Or saying hello to a Devil that grinned.
I`m good to go but I`m going nowhere fast,
Running at the sight of my pathetic past.

And the dirt roads fall behind under my wheels,
As the dust in my tracks blatantly conceals --
The crocodile tears shattering my disguise,
And the past that`s hidden in my lonely eyes.
But even the darkest skies and longest nights,
Couldn`t sum up to the fear of all our fights;
And you said I would never leave you behind,
Because I just wasn`t the courageous kind,
So how ironic it must look to you now,
Seeing an empty bed and wondering how;
I`m good to go but I`m going nowhere fast,
Running at the sight of my pathetic past.

    One of my favorites from you. It was truly phenomenal. Your pieces never seem to amaze. The only line in this I think sounded a little forced in rhyme to me was

    Or saying hello to a Devil that grinned.

    I don't know why but it just struck me as an odd way to put it, like it had to be arranged just so. ? I don't know lol just offering a suggestion. We can all get a little tired of the constant praise and just crave an actual comment that really looks at our poem and tries to help us grow as poets, though I'm no expert really. So, lol, I hope this helps and I hope you know that whether or not you take this suggestion, I LOVE this piece!
