Blink of an Eye

by Hannah Lizette   May 8, 2012

Friendships come and go,
Faster than the blink of an eye.
One day, laughter and smiles,
The next, tears and sorrow.

Sweet, unforgettable memories,
Linger in your thoughts.
How could 10 years of friendship,
Just get up and walk?

Sleepovers, boys, drama, and late night talks,
Quickly turned to cold shoulders, ignored phone calls,
fights, and awkward hellos.

Sometimes life gets in the way,
You lose track of time,
And before you know it,
Your life is just a distant memory.

Young or old, friendships come and go leaving an empty feeling inside longing for things to be the way they were. Life goes on though. Enjoyed your poem.

  • I can definitely relate to this one. It's sad, like losing a family member, but I guess its all apart of life. People follow different paths, conflicts become difficult to resolve and slowly grow, relationships grow volatile... So many reasons, the same result.

    Fantastic poem!

This is a really amazing piece.

Quickly turned to cold shoulders, ignored phone calls,
    fights, and awkward hellos.

Yes, sometimes it is more awkward among ex-friends than with strangers. Cliche, but true.
