The Voice You Give

by Mortal Utopia   Dec 20, 2017

You know,
you’re always the one to listen –

with your head a little tilted,
your hearing aids just in sight,

and your eyes quietly reading my lips…

(Even though I never really knew how to speak.)
(Even though I’m so terrified of speaking.)
(Even though I feel all that’s coming out of my mouth...)

(...is a jumbled mess...)

(...or nothing at all…)

Your eyes would always light up
as though you can see
the contours of my voice

amongst all the darkness and silence.

(Thank you for giving me the voice I never knew I had - )

This especially resonates with me, and I just love that a deaf person listening intently has given you your voice. Just beautiful! :-) x
