Bon voyage

by Michael   Mar 18, 2019

beneath a black-netted curtain;
her face simmers in a sombre shade of pale-
dark clouds gather below her weary
eyes

tears begin to fall;
like droplets of rain
rolling down veins, of her rose-petal cheeks-
falling into the ocean of earth
of where her shipmate has departed

sails that were threaded with love and vows
gradually unbind and wash away

~ ~ ~ ~

the wind carries messages
of empathy and compassion through the air;
words conveyed from family and loved ones
begin to fill the pages of her heart
with sorrow

~ ~ ~ ~

she steps away from the grassy-cliff edge
of where he lay,
wrapped in the arms of grief
she takes refuge upon a wooded bench

I sit beside her.

I help to gently dust some of the weight
from her shoulders, holding her close

together we reminisce.

some of the paths that
have finally led us to here

-arm in arm-

we stroll to where the sun begins to set
upon a blank canvas;
where the first stone of a new path
is painted in a colour of tomorrow
