Where are you?

by Once an Angel   Jan 16, 2015

Where are you, Love?
I cannot see your face.
Your vague silhouetted shadow,
hangs over my waking, sleeping, dreams.
I cannot make you out.
Do I know you?
Do you know me?

I've looked for you always,
thought I found you once or twice,
but somehow
I am still alone.
Were you somewhere in my past,
and I did not recognize you then?
I did not mean to miss you.

Are you in my waking world,
shrouded in my present confusion,
missing from my side?
Here I am.
Where are you?
Isn't here where you are supposed to be?
Here. . . beside me. . .

I am so alone, Love,
spending all my days in every hour
filling time,
passing moments,
spinning wheels,
waiting. . .
waiting for you.

I am trying so hard to be patient, Love,
but my heart is running out of hope.
I need you.
I am rather poor company for myself.
You know me -
the best of me,
the worst of me,
and can see me in ways I cannot see myself.

I look to you for saving, Love,
from demons
that crawl in bed with me at night.
They come and snuggle with my shadow,
when yours is not by my side.
They are seducing my darkness,
and suffocating my light.

I just want to hold you, Love,
and feel you are real,
protect the smile on your face,
and hold the tears life demands you shed.
In protecting you I also protect myself.
I am needed,
I belong.
I am safe from the harm I'd do myself.

I am looking for you.
Where are you?

Okay, TA, I have to stop here for a while. I would love to browse over your poems but my heart is completely torn into pieces. It was a rewarding decision that I browsed through your profile. I have read a lot of sad pieces, but I have to say it's amazing how you write with the same consistent sadness in every piece, no, even more sad piece by piece. This poem just shattered my already lonely heart as of the moment. Your raw and subtle approach is just brilliant, TA.

The author has put their emotions right into the heart of this poem and opened up their vulnerable heart to show how much they long for that love and protection from the one they love, and who should love them. There was an ease of read to this poem, and something about it made me read it several times. Very truthful account of what it feels like to be so lonely and long for something we once had.
