Sun and Rain

by Trying to hold on   May 1, 2008

Beautiful sunny day, driving beside the water,
First time in ages, a glimmer of hope, no longer feeling numb
And after all the bad stuff I had been going through-
Finally realized from now on only good things could come.

Going through an intersection on our way into town
A car came speeding along the crossover road in our way
Without a warning the car smashed right into us-
Sending us spinning so fast, all we could do was pray.

Screeching tyres lasting forever until at last finally stopped,
Looking up seeing girls in the other car, just laughing
As they reversed, speeding away from the scene,
Complete shock overwhelmed me, feeling like baughing.

Screaming "Oh my God! Oh my God..." over and over
As reality suddenly and completely grabbed a hold of me,
Hyperventilating, unable to move, sitting there shaking-
Shattered glass was just everywhere that I could see.

Dad quickly got out his door and came around to mine-
Just held me in his arms saying "its okay, we're both okay"
While I sat there crying so hard it echoed and echoed,
Looking at my dad I said "that didn't just happen, no way!"

An ambulance guy held my chin making me look at him,
Saying loudly "control your breathing, you can do it!"
I just kept looking-horrified at the glass all over the road
Behind me the door smashed in by the impact of the hit.

Next thing I knew I was being examined at hospital
Just had black bruising in places down my left side
And a very painful back and neck from the whiplash,
I just kept on thinking Oh my God I could have died.

A police officer arrived to get a statement from my Dad-
He told us "The girl who was driving has been arrested,
We've also charged her with theft and drink driving
She'll go to court; an appropriate penalty will be requested"

Awakening next day, feeling numb, all my hope gone,
Only one day ago I thought from bad stuff I was free
Dawning on me as I looked out the window at pouring rain
A sign from God that me getting well just wasn't meant to be.

A sad story. There are times I believe everyone has where just when you think things can't get any worse, they do. Also times where everything seems to be going great and something aweful happens. And so is the circle of life. This poem is an excellent example of how short life can be. It can be taken at any moment without warning. We should cherish each day and try to make the best of it. Nice job on the poem.

So much happened. So many thoughts. I hope this was not true. Still, I'm glad you put it in words for yourself, and to let us share in your healing. You are a talent.
