Oppression

by Lonely Rider   Oct 20, 2010

In tumultuous times,
of cruelty and oppression,
she rose above the
slaved crowd,
through lashes and
stones of hatred,
by so called
guardians of faith,
she succumbed to gashes,
by society’s whip,

What right they have
to rewrite their lives
or bind them through
blinded beliefs.
Or clip their wings
before they unfurl.

* I was reviewing the book - A thousand Splendid suns , when the above thoughts came to my mind.

This poem speaks for all the victims of oppressive societies around the world. So sad that this is a daily reality for so many. Your poems gains my sympathy for the victim and at the same time, makes me wish I could do something to help. Well done.

    Well done LR,

A select few seem to think they have the right to enforce their beiliefs on so many.

Oppression is not good for society. It kills people, quiets voices that should be heard. Well done.
