I am Deep

by Paul Gondwe   Jun 14, 2012

I hide behind fake lines
of being a proud African son
yet I despise this very country
of mine

For with it, I have known
only misery and suffering,
lost Daniel and Alex, yet still
believe in better days to come

I am deep for I am a man
not to hide what I feel,
I cry, I laugh, I bap and I fart
Yes, I am deep

I am as deep as the sea,
black as can be......so dark
I even question what I
might be

I accept my present condition
as being Hell, for Heaven
is just a fantasy, a dream I portray
in mind while I live in the reality that is hell,
I am deep

    Bukowski said it,

"It's so easy to be a poet and so hard to be a man."

    again, solid.

    Paul Gondwe,

I am living in a place where war never stops. Still Syria means the world to me, and I can never imagine myself living away from it. I can tell how hard it feels when you see your beloved ones suffering, even if countries. It's like...you really can do nothing about it but you try anyway. It is sad. So sad.

I am sorry for your loss, I don't know Daniel nor Alex nor how you lost them but I'm sorry. It feels like this poem was meant to let out your emotions, those suppressed emotions. And you did a great job. :)

Oh it can be hard to live in a place that we love so much, a place that is our home and there are certain things going on that we wish weren't. Where people are being hurt or dying, it gets me angry and this poem broke my heart but you wrote it so well.

    Awesome poem
