Distracting Time

by Hannah Lizette   Nov 4, 2013

We swam in oceans of blankets
and made love with the simplicity
of holding hands,

retracing history and foretelling
the future in the lifelines of our
wandering palms.

The weekend molded pancakes
in cookie-cutter shapes and
hot chocolate fevered at
the same temperature as
our cottonmouthed hearts.

We pinned each and every
millisecond to the mattress
and continued to wrestle the
timekeeper in hopes that he
would be distracted by the
euphoria of watching two
people fall out of lust
and into love.

The imagery here is something that really 'made' this poem. A sweet poem about two lovers actually falling in love -- beautiful descriptions here. I laughed, though, as I read the cookie-cutter pancakes and then 'pinned' .. because I just saw this on Pinterest. No idea if theres a connection lol. Anyway -- this poem was gorgeous and I love how the ending wrapped up with falling out of lust and into love. That moment is truly a sweet one!
