Sleep, what's that?

Sleep, what's that?

As the Sun wanes and its last rays flow dimly through
your window pane.
They cast those dark shadows upon your bedroom wall,
their long fingers that drag the darkness behind,
they speak to my mind saying; my sleep I should
soon find.

Mom always said the Sleep Fairy would come but for me it was nowhere to be seen, maybe only in a kids dream?
You toss and turn sighing; will I ever get any sleep,
I feel like crying. Then I think to myself;
what did this to me, was it the candy at the party and with too much time spent at the Bar while yucking
it up with my friends; blah, blah, blah.

A little wine may be fine, too much may bite you
and steal your precious sleep time!

Take this pill it will keep you still, you wonder; how long before It makes me slumber?
You finally fall asleep but not for long, your bladder sings its old familiar song saying; I can't bear this burden for too long! The clock says it's a quarter to three, you pray; please let me make it to 7 am before I have to visit the toilet again.

Who among us has not had those horrible sleepless nights, remember those times while you slept like a child and dreamed of beautiful things that put a smile on your face as it caressed the silky soft lace.

Thanks Zahra, glad you enjoyed it and sang it too!
Most songs today are poetry that is sung, most of us can relate to lack of sleep so I just put real life experience to rhyme.

    Glad your back, missed you.

    Judging Comment:

A reality filled poem. Now how many of us toss
and turn just to find sleep and when we do hope
that it gives us a good six hour sleep without going
to the toilet! This one was penned with a light
heart-ed tone mixed with funny episodes and facts
    of life. Enjoyed the read!

Ken, this is brilliant - it made me laugh and nod knowingly all at once! "your bladder sings its old familiar song" - excellent. A really good write and unique to, delivered in your usual unique way!
