Holding it Together

by Maple Tree   Oct 3, 2017

There is a hidden darkness
in the middle of the sun,
eclipsing my rising notions
of happiness.

I've been overcome
with grief, watching
paint chips fall;
each time my heart breaks.

Swinging upon a swing
wrapping my fingers
around a birdcage;
my Birdy doesn't
sing anymore....

the sadness of a caged bird
who's lost her song
has brought me to tears.

I've felt gun powder
upon my fingertips
within my dreams,
there are times I want
to join Papa and 50 million
other statistics, but to be honest;

I could never pull the trigger,
because watching paint chips fall
reveals an inner beauty of darkness

such as the moon, stars and a child's laughter.

I don't want to miss her
flying once again, so I'll eat
this sadness in a poem, and
others to come...

It's better to write than pull the trigger.

    I find the way Maple Tree writes this poem somewhat different to many and I think this is why it catches my eye.

    The way the poem is presented is more akin to one that would rhyme but it doesn't. Yet the format works perfectly and you become absorbed, eyes flow over it easily without the need to read a stanza for a second time. Although I have read the entire piece 4 times up to press.

    The content and subject matter of the poem are incredibly well conveyed and the story told perfectly.
    A sad story it perhaps is, but it also holds a lot of strength, love and hope. Certainly a lot of fight.

    I hope your situation resolves and that you are reunited with your song bird.

    A very worthy nomination (7)

    It IS better to write than pull the trigger... how I know that a thousand times.

    My heart breaks with you. I know we are far away and I cannot imagine the pain, I can't, and the love you have given as a mother... you are always in my thoughts, always in my heart <3

    Andrea, You made the wise decision.

    It's better to write than pull the trigger.

    No clue, but all the very best for front page if it is nominated.

    This goes deep and you have expressed it well. Writing is great therapy and it releases the pain. Often we can't talk. All the very best.
