Stardust

by Love   Nov 4, 2017

There were nights,
When we hung the stars together,
Creating constellations,
In what we thought,
Was the perfect image of our love.

And after we were done,
We would lie there so breathless;
So perfectly still and in awe,
And I would think,
“God, please don’t ruin this image.
Surely the fates, wouldn’t be so cruel…”

Then I saw a falling star.
For the moon wept,
As we lay there beneath her feet.
A sign of what was to come.

(And that’s what we became.)

Just stardust wishes,
Made-in hopeless vain.
