Shame

I carry shame
like a beloved companion
piggy backing it
throughout the years

It is a reliable friend
when others have abandoned
it stays close to my side
guilt being twisted as loyalty

It is a constant ghost
haunting my every dream
and awaking my fears
until it has become my reality

It is a seductive lover
curving itself around
my very heart and soul
intwined in an unbreakable knot

The shame I carry
like a beloved companion
draining me completely
and maybe just maybe...

This is what you always intended for me
