Whatever It Takes

I'll take every single one of them,
All my bruises, scars and scrapes.
I'll suck then in and absorb them all,

I will do just what it takes.

Every wound endured,
Every word said to cause a wake.
I'll weather that storm and sea of turmoil,

I will do whatever it takes

Ask me for a sacrifice
If god says that choice I must make,
I will bleed upon that hallowed ground.

I will do whatever it takes

Stand square and toe to toe with me
Let's separate the real from fake.
Know you cannot win in this place

I will do just what it takes

    A superb write with a military theme filled with determination to do the right thing. I agree with KCL I can certainly imagine marching along to it too. Best wishes Milly x

      I wasn't really thinking militarily when I wrote it. The idea for the rhyme came from a song tittle, as many of my things do. I just added a little of me into it

    Craig ... I can almost hear the marching military drum here!

    The title is defiant in itself and the poem doesn't back down either.

    The first stanza describes the absolute willingness to fight and endure the consequences for the yet untold cause.
    The second stanza reiterates that the battle, causing wounds and death (a wake) will be weathered like a storm (great metaphor)
    The third ... if a sacrifice is deemed necessary by god to protect the holy ground, then blood would willingly be spilled to do just that
    Fourth stanza ... you could have said "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" lol ... bring it on!

    The repeated use of "I will do just what/whatever it takes" between each stanza really works well in punctuating the forcefulness of your conviction here and gives the poem real gravitas. Interestingly ... although I've interpreted your words as 'war-like' - this could also apply to a battle/defence of hearts and love as much as it could to an actual war of territory. The rhyming is great, as is the imagery here. A fab piece in my opinion :-) x

      The poem is about the will and determination to achieve an end regards of cost to self. It's about standing strong and pushing on through those difficult times.

      I suppose it could be interpreted in many ways but it's always worth remembering sometimes the biggest obstacle in your way can be yourself
