Back to bed

by Walter   Mar 6, 2018

Waking up late this morning
The alarm clock didn't ring
So I had to rush with my shower
Didn't even have time to sing

Needing to dry off really fast
While leaving my hair soaking wet
I try to slide into my trousers
But my legs not through them yet

I'm hopping to the wardrobe
And still trying to put them on
Now looking for a clean shirt
But realize they've all gone

I remember I washed some clothes
And hung them out for drying
I rush outside to grab the nearest
Time now for the ironing

Balancing a coffee in one hand
And a hot iron in the other
There's more creases than when I started
I don't know why I bother

My shirts on but not buttoned
And a tie looped around my neck
I check for my look in the mirror
And see a nervous wreck

No time to try and fix things
Or even think about a shave
Grab my tooth brush and deodorant
But more time is what I crave

I rush outside barely dressed
And the first person that I see
Has to be my nosy neighbour
Who smiles when noticing me

She cannot help but smirk
I'm relieved that I cannot stay
Then asks me why I'm going to work
On a public holiday...

Anyone who lives alone and goes on a job can relate to this. It had happened to me once. You forgot the day, but I forgot to wear my pants and almost reached the main door. Modern life is hectic. Very clever piece of writing.

Oh Walter, how funny! Nothing worse than thinking you are late only to find out it was all for naught. Well done-

Thanks Em :) It's hard to imagine what you would be feeling if this happened....relief or total embarrassment lol. Back to bed for sure.
