The same old song

by Michael   Apr 3, 2018

Mouths hush to a silent lull-

i sighed in awe as my
emotions were bathed by an orhestra
in a musical splendour-
however, the world outside this theatre
brings a more familiar sighing tone;
one awash with demise.

chords were struck with
passion, love and dignity.

Geniuses stroked-
the strings of their hearts
brushing ears with a blissful sound;
-unlike the sound of bombs striking and bullets
that fire-wounding; death and grief into
those most innocent

empty shells could not be heard echoing in here;
only a standing ovation, where cries
resounded at such a memorable performance
-unlike the memories of embedded shrapnel;
tears that weep from bloodshot eyes
where tears fall-heavy in vain

Wind-
swept gracefully from lips of maestros
carrying the beauty of unity;
through the air
egaging with their ensemble

-unlike news
that engages our attention
which spreads quickly; travelling
through the media with the blare-
of the same old bloody tune with
lyrics of war and trauma

will they ever write verses of liberation and peace
or
just continue to print death warrants
and sentences masqueraded
upon song sheets?

..doesn't take a genius or a maestro

    Judging Comment - The same old song by Michael points 4 - This speaks of unfortunate truths that we are each our own person, each have our own woes yet still there are people, circumstances which are much worse of than ourselves but what can we do, unless we stand together and fight for the right thing, not a lot I suppose. A thought provoking piece which I will read time and again.

    I've read this a number of times now and each time I see a different thing which deems is beautiful, powerful and truthful all at once but I'm with Mr D even though this is a clear message will we ever listen?? Unfortunately I don't think we will, we'll just have to count our blessings I guess

    A clear message. Will we listen though?

    Hard hitting Michael and every word true. I fear we'll be singing the same song until we eventually wipe ourselves off the planet. Sad but beautifully written :-) x
