Lost (Sonnet - Double Rhyme)

by Milly Hayward   Aug 28, 2019

An ashen veil of night removes the light
as beauty takes her leave and still I grieve
This blight has taken now my wish to fight
against this peeve I'm left with no reprieve

Once free, I roamed the world with crazy glee
all sights were joyous things for my delight
Strong tea and pleasant spirits were the key
to life where things were right and always bright

But now all fun has died, become undone
lost love has stole away my inner soul
A cold gun in my head blows out the sun
this inner foal once loved reveals a hole

Please wash away these feelings dark I pray
don't let them stay with me another day

Beautiful, I love the double rhymes -- the double rhymes don't retract from the imagery or rhythm, very clever!
