Silently Suffering

by Walter   Sep 17, 2019

She has given up and lost the will
Keeps climbing up an endless hill
Starts work at eight and ends at five
Earns barely enough to keep alive

Comes home alone to an empty flat
Her only company is her cat
Goes through mail behind the door
Though bills aren't what she's looking for

No friends who call or lovers who write
It's going to be another lonely night
A candle lit but no romance
It's only purpose for her finance

The thought of food has lost appeal
Another ten minute microwave meal
Complete with plastic fork and plate
Just add water and then she waits

Her dining table is minuscule
Though opposite her an empty stool
No need with dining etiquette
Table manners she can forget

As quick to cook as it is to eat
Though this hardly a special treat
The upside is no mess to clean
All thrown away to a sight unseen

Tomorrow she will begin again
But now she has to wait till then
And this the hardest time for her
Another life she would prefer

She'd always search the reason why
What made her became so shy
Though to question is to no avail
Already knows she's doomed to fail
