Rescue

by nouriguess   May 1, 2020

I held my dog to the bed
last night when
the power went down.
He doesn't like darkness.
When it's dark, he searches for
my chest, denning
his way through the bedcovers.
He curls his small body
into a circle beneath my head
so close that I can feel
him breathing.
I smile.
He needs me to feel
safe.

He doesn't know
that I need him more, and
that it's always dark for me.

This melts my heart. You know how much I feel this, as we've talked about it before, and I'm sure many on here can relate. I actually have a bumper sticker that says "my rescue dog rescued me", and nothing could be truer. Baxter is so gosh darn lucky to have you, and I'm so happy you have him :) Sometimes, they're the only ones who can get us through, or keep us going through that darkness.
