Perception

by Walter   Nov 8, 2020

I may not be rich
But I have money to spend
I may not be famous
But I'm loved by my friends

I don't drive a Ferrari
But my car always starts
I don't have endless lovers
But only one in my heart

I don't own a huge mansion
But a home safe and warm
I'm not chased by paparazzi
But I don't have to perform

I don't dine at classy restaurants
But my meal fills the plate
I'm not in glossy magazines
But it's private when we date

I don't spend thousands on cosmetics
But I show my true side
I'm never asked for my autograph
But when I go out I don't hide

No I will never want to change my life
To be someone I'm not
Why can't people accept themselves
And be happy with what they've got

Just remember there's millions more
Living a life they did not choose
And I'm sure each and every one of them
Would love to be in your shoes

    There's a saying...
"It's not having what you want
    It's WANTING what you HAVE."
Your poem epitomises this saying perfectly!

Walter, this is wonderful. In a superficial world this is the slap that we all need. Each verse highlighting a fake way of being, then offers personal examples of the healthier alternative. In essence, if you are true to yourself, after all, we are lucky to have what we do.

Walter, this is so inspiring, it's going into my favourites. I will nominate as soon as I can.

    Take care.

Mr. Darcy, thank you so much for reading and leaving such a wonderful comment! And it's so true what you say...I think we all desire to want more and often we forget to appreciate what we already have.

Take care too and all the best :)
