Shallow Talks

by Maud   Apr 9, 2021

I wonder if my simple words,
cut the way that yours do.
Politically correct pleasantries,
small talk replacing I love you.

We used to have it all and more,
closer than we could dream.
Now thoughtless words flow about,
as we are no longer we.

The universe out did itself,
when we had first locked eyes.
But karma kicked us in the ass,
when we said our last goodbyes.

I’m sure they do. Maybe even more so. Very nice.
