Instincts

by Kate   Apr 14, 2021

She’s screaming out at the top of her lungs
While he sings a girl all the songs they had sung
In the light of the moon
It was all so soon
So she ran away

She thought he’d follow just like he promised
But she didn’t know he was being dishonest
He only wanted one thing
A hot summer fling
He was never going to stay

She wonders how different life would be
If she’d never left, if she could breathe
Under his constant pressure
It never got better
And he pushed too far

She was the innocent, one with no exposure
To demands and desires of a boy that was older
What if she caved
Let him take what she saved
Would it have left a scar?

Her instincts told her not to stay
Sometimes it just works out that way
