Rolodex Nightmares

by Maple Tree   Sep 13, 2021

I’ve consulted the demons of my past desires

During a night of bloodstained tears,

Pleading for a release so that I may slumber

Alone, whispers mate with insomnia

When the echo’s dangle temptation

Crossed dancing eyes and wondering hearts.

I’ve grown desperate enough to pencil down

Secrets that I never thought I would share

And still the chains keep me from flying.

Fingers scratch and pick paint chips as if

Each one has a name, and they do in my head

But I refuse to tell people. I hold them close,

Loving them alone like a hidden mistress

Upon a summers eve under a full moon.

I’m going mad, yet people still smile

And wave as I pass by.
