Daddy's Hands

Momma and I were having problems
every since we ran away from daddy’s hands.
They just wouldn’t charge him with assault & battery
for the cops just will never understand...

The bruises he left my mother on her back
and the ciggarettes he put out on my body...
For my daddy was a well respected man
but behind closed doors they never got to see...

The agitation and the turmoil
he caused the tears from my mother’s green eyes,
the agony, pain, and torture
he made his little boy, a couple of nights, almost die.

Daddy’s hands hit us and made momma lose baby sister,
his hands were so big, tenacious, and strong.
Daddy’s hands held a greater strength than I think he knew,
Daddy’s hands hit momma and me even when we did nothing wrong.

Momma said the liquor and drugs got into his system
and he did not realize what he was doing to us
but Momma ran away when he aborted her baby girl
but when I look at momma she’s not the same as she was.

We are so cold and poor with nothing to eat struggling to get by
Why daddy wrecked our world, I will never understand.
Momma keeps saying what daddy did will make us stronger
but I don’t think anything is stronger than my daddy’s hands.
