The barn of the old farm

by Mona   Nov 30, 2005

Water, crackers and cigarettes,
That's all she gets,
When she is locked up in the barn,
Of the old farm.

Mother said that's where she belongs,
Till she learns how to right her wrongs,
What she deserves is what she gets,
Water, crackers and cigarettes,

I came to rescue her from despair,
She couldn't believe why anyone would care,
I carried her to my home,
Sad that her mother never called on the phone

She never cried,
Though the truth couldn't be denied,
She was still locked up in the barn,
Of the old farm.

She never talked,
By my side she always walked,
Together we went to burn down the barn,
Of the old farm.

We watched the barn burn,
I was hoping it would give her freedom in return,
She stared and wouldn't say a thing,
She kept playing with her nose ring.

I lost ground and fell in the ashes of the barn,
Of the old farm.
Down my face the tears guttered,
When she kneeled down I stuttered,
I cccan't hhhelp you cccan I?

Finally her stone face cracked,
And she said; As a matter of fact,
You got me out of the barn,
But you can't get the barn,
Of the old farm,
Out of me,
To set me free.

Yes, I was hoping that line would throw you off..It's just how I am..Haha. What you though it meant in the beginning is probably what it meant.

Anyways, this poem is great, I liked it all, except I think guttered and stuttered, is kind of a weak rhyme..That's just me though.

And also, at the very beginning I think the flow is a little bit off because waters, crackers, and cigarretes, if you say it aloud, it takes much longer to say than, thats all she gets.

Great poem, keep up the good work, I love all your poetry.
