Addictive Mask

by Avellana   Dec 17, 2005

Crimson lips are dripping
Acidic blood and bile
A stomach finally empty
Relief brings a small smile

You pull yourself up slowly
And watch your vision fade
Darkness pulls the edges
And breaks your masquerade

Hands, which rub across your mouth
Come away stained bright with red
You close your eyes to rest
To ease the pounding in your head

Walk to the sink below the mirror
Confirms you don't like what you see
Haunted eyes look back at you
Proving your still stupid and weak

You close your eyes-breathe-open them
See a different person staring back
...Then freshen up your makeup
To mask everything you lack

I love the way it seems so dark and mysterious, and then you indentify it with the reader at the end by mentioning the girl freshen up her makeup.

and yeh, i know i already commented, but that was along time ago, and i enjoyed it again.

Faltered starting off, but picked up from the second stanza with an energy it carried to the very end.
