A Day's Nightfall- Series 1- Part 2- Through the Streets

by LettersFromEnnis   Mar 18, 2006

I look around with my ears
But I hear nothing
Just the silent echo of shutting doors
On the floors above and below me

With no other thing of interest nearby
I sprint down the steps of the building
Pull out the wrist watch from the pocket
And put it on

7:42:57
7:42:58
7:42:59
7:43:00

It was a great start
Floor 7
For once I had an optimistic feeling
Toward this day

I greeted my Floor 5 neighbor
The Floor 2 one as well
Floor 1
And I walked out of the building

The streets weren't my cup of tea for brisk walks
So for that
I'd walk to my very special person's neighborhood
To walk

Strolling down the sidewalk
I greeted random people
With a 'good morning' smile
I gratefully got it in return

As I embark on this daily journey
I laud the bright sun
As it exerts its peeking rays
Through the dispersed clouds

I stopped at the corner
The orange hand blinking
As if there was nothing
Better to do

Flash
The white silhouette man lets me walk
Enticing me to travel the halted avenue
And go on

A few more blocks away I thought
My heart beating faster
As I got closer to her
And closer

Slightly sweating
I look up
And gaze at the towering buildings
With complex structures

People would come out of these buildings
With not a care in the world
And just walk on
Like careless creatures

Another corner
And another wait
But this time
There was something going on

A police car was stationed on the side of the road
The navy blue suited man
Was arresting another
For DUI

What a ludicrous thing it was
But I didn't gawk over the situation
Like the typicals would
Thinking perfection in themselves

Taking no care
I journeyed on
Walking down and turning one last time
In my own Lover's Lane
