Peanut Butter Mornings

by Kaylee   Mar 20, 2006

For My two youngest sisters
****************************

Smeared peanut butter across the countertop.
Spilled milk dripping down to make puddles.
Sticky handprints on the white kitchen walls.
What a mess! Where do I even begin to clean?

There are bread crumbs near the birdcage.
Guess they must have been feeding those birds.
But pesky crumbs are a pain to sweep when
Tomorrow there might once again be more.

Better begin to wipe the milk from the hardwood.
There is even milk around the bottom of the dog dish.
Beside the bowl is even a plate with peanut butter.
How the smell of it just makes me feel so sick.

The soaking wet rag presses against the walls.
But for a moment I just stare at those fingerprints.
Oh how much they have grown since leaving infancy.
I may not adore them but
I live for these peanut butter mornings.

This was a sweet poem, i really loved it when you say their fingerprints have grown and they are geting older, i have a younger sister, and it's so strange to see her grow up, because she's going through the things I went through. The whole story line of your poem was really good, and I can see the effort you put into it, but to tell you the truth, the flow wasn't that great, you could work on that with this poem. but either way, i'm giving you a 5/5 because it was a unoque poem.

Such a sweet poem. It has such a parental feel to it even though they're your sisters. Great work!
