The Fog.

by Steven Beesley   Mar 27, 2006

The Fog:

A Grey unearthly mist rolls in from across the bay.
In the distance the fog horns can
be heard announcing the arrival of the fog.

Ships at sea, sound their horns
for no one can see through the thick blanket.
It shrouds everything and in such a mysterious way.

As dusk begins, the fog does not appear to lift,
settling on the quiet coastal hamlet.
As though something unspeakable has come with it.

Everyone stays in as the horns continue, like signaling the
approach of some ghostly apparition.
No one dares to stray out.

The wet dew that it brings settles on all and everything around.
The moist warm air swirls but never to give way to it's secrets.

Don't venture out as we know not what the fog may bring.
Everyone settles for the night as the horns sound their eerie calls through the night.

I loved the description, a very haunting feel. I've lived here (NL) my life and there are so many legends and deaths caused by the fog. Amazing poem, you captured its elusive nature beautifully!

That....is really odd. It has a very mysterious air to it (and I know thats the intention) and also the structure illudes me. It sort of has no structure and that really adds to the descpription of the fog. If this makes sense its sort of like a picture poem where they write the poem in the shape of the topic, except in this case its the structure... Ok Im making no sense aaaaannnddd post.
