Man who Ran Away

I discovered, with a kiss
His falling smile
The angel in flames inside
Whose tender soul
Could never present itself
In sorrowful eyes.

I wondered, with longing
Where he came from
If he was a real
Or a devil with a halo
Could the frown be lifted
From the somber song?

I whispered, barely audible
Of his rescue
Held the monster for a moment
But the heart ran
Away from the ground and
All disappeared into the sun
