Fortunate revelation

by Melissa   May 8, 2006

I'm leaving 29
with a few scars,
one or two pretty memories,
and a fortune cookie that says,
you have a sincere desire to improve
and I think to myself,
hey self, wouldn't it be nice
if the Chinese got it right...

I know my heart is hesitant
to kiss a man passionately,
too afraid of those sharp white teeth
behind every pair of tempting lips...

And a funny thing called gravity
can be quite unnerving
when at the top,
my fear of heights
has disabled my ability
to fly with broken wings...

And I'm afraid reality
can be an ugly thing
so I shout out to my savior,
Hey man, show me a hero
that's not strung out on morphine
perhaps then I'll believe in dreams...

But maybe God doesn't believe
in direct communication
and these little signs,
like this half eaten fortune cookie
speaks a tad bit of truth
and I want to get it right
so my next life
can write a book
on overcoming strife...
