Words Over Friendship

by *Charisma*   Sep 27, 2006

(i heard mention of this in another poem or quote and wanted to do my own take on it)

They'd been best friends since they were five
And swore to each other it would stay that way
There'd never been a lie told between them
And they'd promised to never one say

But one of the girls whom we shall call Lynn
Heard her friend, Sue, had said some things
She wanted to ignore those hurtful words
But no matter what, there'd be no forgetting

She confronted Sue and asked for the truth
But in her heart she'd decided what she believed
See, whether Sue said she hadn't or had
Lynn had made up her mind it seems

They shed many tears as Sue said it was a lie
That Lynn should know her better than that
That this other girl was feeding Lynn falsehoods
But Lynn couldn't accept that fact

They parted that day so upset and lonely
Just from what some no one had said
Those 40 years of friendship faded to nothing
As they felt bitter for what they once had

If those words they had chosen to ignore
Lynn and Sue could still be best friends
You see, Sue had done nothing wrong
But Lynn simply wouldn't listen

So what will you do if you hear some story
Of something your friend MIGHT have done
Will you believe your lifelong friend
Or this gossiping no good someone?
