Bitter Choice

by Gem   Nov 7, 2006

I try to hate you with all my heart
But no matter how hard I try
I can't bring myself to do it
My heart won't tell a lie

I miss you more every day
I want you back here with me
It's so hard living without you
Separated by land and sea

Childhood memories are all I have
To remind me of your face
Staring at past photographs
From a happier time and place

It's countless years since I last saw
Your ever infectious smile
Yet I can never bring myself
To pick up the phone and dial

Because afterwards I feel much worse
Because I've heard you voice
It tears my heart in little pieces
And leaves me with a bitter choice

A choice of whether to cut off contact
And save myself the pain
Cos mom? I can never be sure
If I can ever see you again ©

When I first started reading this poem, I thought, "Wow! This is very well written." Then as soon as I got to the bottom of the page and you said, "Mom." Talk about major goose-bumps. lol!!!
Very few poems do that to me.
Tons of emotion and it just flows.
    Well done.

If you have the time would you mind reading some of my poems and letting me know what you think?
    I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks, and again, that was great.
