He Loved My Friend*

by lost in lovee   Feb 12, 2007

He loved my friend
But she wouldn't even look his way.
He loved her with all his heart;
She wouldn't give him the time of day.

He tried to win her over,
But nothing seemed to work.
He wasn't going to give up
Until he had her heart.

Each day the rejection
Hurt him more inside.
Each day everyone told him
She wasn't worth making him cry.

He didn't want to hear it.
He said they were all lies.
He said that one day she'd love him,
He could see it in her eyes.

As the days passed
He couldn't take the pain anymore
He said f u c k the world
I can't be here anymore!

So he grabbed a knife
And put it to his throat
He said without her what's the point.

Now she'll see all the pain
She has caused me
But will she even shed a tear?
Knowing it was all over her.

All these thoughts running through his head
He can't think straight
He knows what he has to do.

He's moving the knife closer and closer
With tears running down his eyes

... And suddenly the phone begins to ring,
On the other line
An old friend.

"I know how much you love my friend,"
Is what she told him.
"But please give me one chance,
I love you more than I could ever explain."

He puts down the knife
With a smile on his face
While wiping away the tears
He says...
"Ok we could try and make it work
You don't know how much you helped me...
Realize what I'm worth..."

I think that the idea is very interesting, I think the ending wrapped up suddenly, abruptly, it wasn't a smooth transition for me. I did like the poem, however, it was a simple and easily understood message, presented well.
