The Big One

by Jackie   Jun 4, 2007

Come on he soothes, you'll be fine
Reassuringly, placing his hand in mine
Slowly leading me forward, bit by bit
Go on, he says, you can do it.

Screeching and whining signals it's here
My body's enveloped in a wave of fear
Forcing myself on, with leaden feet
Strapping myself into the wooden seat

With much creaking and groaning off we go
Racing up high and dropping down low
Rapidly twisting to the left and right
Grasping the bar with all my might

The ride starts slowing for the final bend
At last, I cheer, it's come to an end
Laughing at my son as the dock comes into view
That's the last time, he says I'll go on the Big Dipper with you
